Off the Beaten Path – Cody Jinks by Matt Hatfield

Cody Jinks has always been an artist that does things his own way. He’s built a diehard following among country music fans without the aid of a huge record label or airtime on mainstream country radio stations. Now he’s made history by dropping two very different albums on the same day and having them both reach the number one spot on their respective charts.

First off let’s talk about the country album Mercy. Fans of Cody’s and of true country music in general are going to absolutely love this album. In my humble opinion it’s among his best work. “I Don’t Trust My Memories Anymore” is the kind of song Merle Haggard or Keith Whitley would have been proud to sing. Honestly though it’s so hard for me to pick a favorite song from this album because I love them all so much.

“Roll”, “Like A Hurricane”, and “Shoulders” are true blue collar anthems. The kinda songs that inspire you to keep going when things are tough. And we all need a little of that sometimes.

The other album is titled None The Wiser and was released under the band name Caned By Nod. The first track released was “Middle Finger” and it does a fantastic job for setting the pace of the album. The music is raw and gritty, Cody’s unmistakable twang still comes through but with decidedly more edge than usual. “Eyes” and “Half A Life” are my other favorite songs from the album but the entire thing is an absolute must listen!

Cody’s playing a handful of dates this November and December, with a few already booked for next year. If you get a chance to see him perform, don’t miss it. He’s absolutely one the best live acts out there now!
