I’m an incredibly lucky man because right now my finger seems to beat right on the pulse of real country music. This whole scene of upcoming artists that is gonna blow everyone away. I’m not exaggerating when I say that Kentucky and West Virginia have more talented artists playing and recording on their own right now than Nashville’s famous Music Row has had in the last decade combined. High on the list of my personal favorite artists is Kentucky singer-songwriter, Lance Rogers.
There is no better reason to stuff your face with crispy bacon, melted cheese and smoked meat over the weekend than the Super Bowl!
So grab a big pile of jalapeños, bacon, cheese and your favourite smoked meat and let’s make some fucking Texas Twinkies! I called this batch: “‘BERTA Twinkies”, because I’m from Alberta, Canada and I used Alberta AAA beef brisket, Alberta shot white-tail deer and Alberta Elk. This is a massive recipe (I made 70 stuffed peppers!) so be sure to reduce it accordingly.
Now Let’s get to the good stuff..
The Illusione Candela 888 Necessary and Sufficient is a new one for me. After researching it while smoking, I found that this particular cigar while being a Nicaraguan-Puro, is made in Honduras. When looking at this beautiful cigar, the first thing you notice is the smooth construction and green color which comes from the candela wrapper.
Lately I have been venturing past my comfort zone of Dominican and Nicaraguan cigars, and diving into the world of Cuban cigars. I have to admit that I have always been bias so to my surprise, I have really enjoyed the pairings that I’ve been exploring. I invite you to discover some odd and unconventional pairings that were pleasing to my palate.
Welcome to the February edition of NGCS’ Home Builds.
This month we are traveling all the way to Portland, Oregon to visit Jesse Guerrero’s home lounge, creatively named; The Green Dragon Speakeasy.
Jesse is a fan of The NGCS and has been active on the Facebook group for sometime. When we at NGCS seen Jesse posting pictures of his gorgeous lounge we knew it needed it’s own special feature right here in The Official Online Magazine!
Below, Jesse will walk you through ‘The Green Dragon Speakeasy’:
The inimitable swagger. The boisterous, explosive dialogue. The ubiquitous cigar that became an extension of himself and his personality. These are the hallmark traits of Al Pacino, the legendary actor who will be forever revered for his impassioned and nuanced roles. Off-screen, his passion for smoking Cuban cigars is equally legendary.
To start this series, I have chosen one of my favorite movies, Predator. Action, suspense, science fiction – this movie has it all. With a star-studded cast represented by Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, and Jesse “The Body” Ventura. While watching Predator you get to follow a team of commandos as they take on a mission in a Central American jungle. They are there to hunt down an unknown enemy, only to become the prey themselves. The team’s skills are put to the test as they uncover and attempt destroy this foreign enemy. Without giving too much away, for those that have not had the chance to see this movie – I highly recommend it.
For this article I decided to dive into the “Smoking With Chris” archives and I found this rare and wonderful cigar memory. Behold the Cohiba Behike BHK-56!
Let’s first take a little walk into the Cohibas history. Cohiba is the premier brand of Habanos which was initiated in 1966 as a limited production that was exclusively for Fidel Castro and high-level officials of the Communist Party of Cuba. Often these Cohibas were gifted out as diplomatic gifts to politicians and important people from other countries by Fidel Castro himself. They were made in the now famous El Laguito Factory in Havana, Cuba.
